REGIONAL NATURE PARK OF AVETO
The most authentic part of Liguria, with the wildest nature
The Regional Nature Park of Aveto is located in the Ligurian inland zone, on the eastern tip of the province of Genoa. It covers a territory that is made up primarily of mountain ridges, an interesting part of the Tyrrhenian-Po watershed, with some of the highest peaks of the Ligurian Apennines such as Mount Penna (1741 m).
The area of the park extends over three valley: the upper Val d'Aveto, with rocky peaks, vast beech woods (state forests of Lame and Mount Penna) and glacial lakes (Natural Reserve of Agoraie); Sturla Valley with Mount Aiona (1701 m) and the upper Val Graveglia with Mount Zatta, the sink-hole of Prato Oneto and other sites of great geomorphological and mineralogical interest.
One of the most interesting sites is the Gambatesa mine, recently restructured and converted into a tour-educational site. The enormous variety of enviroments and rocks provides an ideal home for numerous animal and vegetable species that endow the park with a vast, precious biodiversity.
