The vaste highlands of Marcarolo are located in the mountainous area of the Ligurian-Piedmont Apennine range, dominated by Mount Tobbio. The environment has a vegetation that consists primarily of grasslands and bushes, with frequent outcroppings of small peat bog that are particularly interesting for the adaptation of botanical species and for the presence of plants that can be considered relics of the ice ages (Aster alpinus, Genista radiata).

The particularity of the area is due to its geographical position (at an average distance of 15 kilometers from the Ligurian Gulf) that gives it an extremely varied climate.

On the northern edge of the part there is still visible traces of chestnut cultivation. There are also woods of Oak, Ash, Mountain Ash, pero corvino, Buckthorn and, following the artificial reforestation practiced in the region, Cluster Pine.
Among the types of fauna are Roe Deer and Wild Boar, while other types that are often seen in the area include Buzzard, Kestrel, Goshawk and Short-toed Eagle.
