| The Monument is situated a few kilometers from the towns of Terracina and Sonnino. It is characterized by a karst plateau, one of the most significant of the whole Mediterranean basin. Here imposing calcareous monoliths stand out, giving origin to very high pinnacles like "Rava di San Domenico". From the scientific and landscape point of view, there are important characteristic karst formations like dolines, karst fields, and sinkholes. The microclimate forming around the sinkholes favors the growth of vegetal formations of laurel, flowering ash, ilex tree, lote trees, and butcher's broom. |
