From Alpe Devero to Crampiolo across the 'Vallaro'

Leaving from Devero plateau, follow the cart road which, running along the stream, leads to loc. Canton. Near the small bridge leading to CAI Castiglioni mountain hut, turn right, slightly diagonally across the large meadows towards the woodland.
Once you enter the thin vegetation, go ahead in the so-called "Vallaro", on the slopes of P.zo Stange, from where it is possible to observe the huge landslide above Alpe Campello. Turn left and, after a short detour touching two rural buildings, one of which has been recently renovated, you reach a lime cave with a kiln, now abandoned.
Return to the main trail and go ahead along the stream. After touching some huts, you will enter a plateau. Walking on the left, you will shortly reach "Lago delle Streghe", called in the maps "Lago Azzurro", an enchanting small lake delimited by morainic detritus and fed by a subterranean spring.
From here, after crossing a little trunk working as a bridge and after crossing the meadows, you get to the village of Crampiolo, one of the rural centers of Alpe Devero and a departure point for further tours.
Among the different itineraries, we recommend the tour of Devero Lake, also called "Codelago", a not very demanding tour offering great views. At the end you can go back by following the same trail, or following the service carriage road, or walking along a shaded trail developing in a wonderful larch woodland.
