Wonderful tour with Pagarì glacier as destination, a few meters from Federici-Marchesini Mountain Hut, offering privileged views over Chiafrion, Maledia, Peirabroc, and Clapier glaciers.
Pagarì glacier is a small glacier and, together with the nearby glaciers of the rest of the Massif, is the southernmost glacier in the Alps. It lies at the foot of the trapezoidal north-eastern wall of Maledia, spectacular at the sunrises, when it acquires a reddish color. The panorama you can enjoy from the Mountain Hut is wonderful, and it is not unusual to sight the wild ibex.
From San Giacomo follow the road entering Vallone di Moncolomb and ending at Gias del Vej del Bouc sottano. Go ahead along the mule track on the right crossing the stream and continuing cut into the mountain side towards the head of the Vallone. Climb along some hairpin bends and ignore the detour leading to Moncalieri bivouac. A winding road with a considerable slope crosses Sottano del Muraion Pass (2,050m). Shortly after, the mule track with a reasonable slope reaches the abandoned Gias Soprano del Muraion (2,090m) and at about 2,200m of altitude, the junction to Agnel Lake. Go ahead on the right with a long series of bends until you reach Federici-Marchesini Mountain Hut (2,650m) and the glacier.
