Tour of rare beauty offering wonderful views over summits and lakes. Spectacular view over the beautiful western slope of Serra dell'Argentera, with Catena delle Guide on your left and Catena della Madre di Dio on your right. Towards south-west, you can see the other 3,000m high mountains of the massif: Paganini, Nasta, Baus, Bastione, and Brocan. The five Fremamorta lakes arranged as a chain in a glacial basin are surrounded by whitish granite rocks where you can easily observe, in July and August, a tiny endemic violet of Marittime, called "argenteria violet". It is also possible to sight herds of mouflons coming from the bordering Mercantour National Park.
From Terme di Valdieri, taking the asphalt carriage road of Vallone della Valletta, you will reach Gias delle Mosche where a sign marks, on the right, the mule track to follow. Take the downhill trail leading to the torrent and cross it on a small footbridge. After a stretch cut into the mountain side, the trail climbs with a long series of hairpin bends along the slopes of Rocca di San Giovanni. After a few bends in a stony ground, you will reach the glacial basin housing the five Fremamorta lakes. As an alternative, for the return journey, you can take the marked trail leaving from Lago soprano and going down to Piano della Casa (1,743m), from which, along the dirt carriage road, you can go back to the departure point.
