A centuries-old connecting route between the Parma and Baganza valleys and Lunigiana, the Via Longobarda has its historical roots precisely in the penetration and establishment of the Lombards in the northern Apennines. The route, which is being traced on the ground in 2020, is described and illustrated for the first time in this guidebook, which follows the official Parma stages from the towns located on the first hills (Sala Baganza, Felino, Torrechiara, Langhirano) to the Cirone Pass and the Tuscan border, then proposing two final stages on the Tuscan side, following the two documented routes to Filattiera and Pontremoli. Beautiful photographs, detailed cartography, cultural insights and a historical introduction by Gianluca Bottazzi complete the insets and the route technical descriptions.
