Natura 2000 is a network of areas for the conservation of biodiversity on the territory of the European Union and the Authority of the Murgia Materana Park has been identified as the managing body of the SAC (Special Area of Conservation) IT9220135 "Gravine di Matera".
With the Decree of the Regional Executive no. 223 dated 16/03/2018, the Basilicata Region has financed the Programme agreement "INNgreenPAF", which is the reason why, among others, the Park holds the card no. 14, called "CENTRO STUDI E CONSERVAZIONE DELLA BIODIVERSITÀ - PARCO DEI MONACI". It provides for the implementation of 12 actions for the analysis, conservation, and restoration of the natural values of the SAC "Gravine di Matera", with particular reference to its habitats and species.
