Belonging to the Veneridae family, the Delta clam is a mollusk characterised by an ovaloid shell, slightly truncated in the back, with valves furrowed by radial stripes and clearly evident concentric furrows. It ranges from a width of 4-6 cm. The mimum size by law is 25 mm of length. The outer colour of the shell is generally whitish or light brown, sometimes yellowish, with the presence of darker spots and stripes. The pulp is turgid and abudant for almost all year round. The inner surface of the valve is usually whitish, sometimes yellowish, with purplish sections.
