Bronte Green Pistachio has been recognized with a the temporary decree issued by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, and is waiting for the Community Rules making its label official. Its production area includes only the Municipalities of Adrano, Bronte, Biancavilla, and Ragalna, where almost the 100% of the Italian pistachio production is cultivated. The production involves approximately 3,000 ha and reaches the 2 thousands tons.
It is also called "green gold" for its particular bright green color combining with an intense perfume and a resinous and fat consistency. A significant economic feature is represented by the fact that it is a biennial production: as a matter of fact, pistachio growers lead the plant to produce on alternate years in order to obtain greater yields and a higher quality.
It is interesting to notice that, recently, its transformation processes have been intensified: as a consequence, the product can be used in much more fields (for the preparation of pesto, flours, creams, grains, ice-creams, etc.).
