Villa Barbaro-Buri

Built in the 17th century according to the project by the architect Andrea Pagnossin (I576 c.- 1642 c.), it was the dwelling of many famous Venetian families: it belonged to the Pisanis, the Giustinianis, and to the Barbaros. In the first half of the 19th century it was bought by the Guerras, and then by the noble Mocenigos. Since the after-war period it has belonged to the Burris from Trieste. During World War I it was the headquarters of the III Army Corps, whereas during World War II it was occupied by different headquarters, even foreign ones. Its oratorio, dedicated to the St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, still keeps precious artworks, such as the canvas on the ceiling by Gaspare Diziani, probably dating back to the early 1700. Of great value is also the marble group by Pietro Baratta (1659-1720), situated above the main altar, representing the Sacred Family. On the walls of the oratorio there is a noteworthy Via Crucis, realized with a chalcography by Galimberti from Venice (16th century).
