This short novel evokes the life of a small town along the banks of the river Po from the eyes of a child who begins understanding reality between the last years of the war and the first years of the post-war period and gradually discovers the joy of life. A choral life marked by the rhythm of the fields and by events arousing curiosity and fun among the local people. Water is the thread between the two sections of the book. As a matter of fact, "La Storia" and "le Storie" overlap memories, symbols, and thoughts in three important watercourses: the rivers Po, Tiber, and Seine.
