It is a particular citrus fruit because it has never been planted or duplicated elsewhere. Similar to an orange, but with a color going from green to yellow according to the ripening level, it has a very thin and smooth peel and a weight going from 80 to 200 grams. Three varieties are cultivated: "Femminello", with thin branches and smooth fruits, "Castagnaro", stronger and with less spherical and a bit wrinkled fruits, and "Fantastico" (about the 75% of the production regards this variety). Each fruit contains from 10 to 15 slices. Its flower, the zàgara (from the Arabic zahara, i.e. flower), consists of five white petals with an intense perfume.
