The imposing landslide (debris/earth translational slide) that detached, during the night of 4 January 1973, from the north-eastern slope of Mt. Antenna in the locality of Mt. Prache di Cucco - Costantino, moving about 20 million cubic metres of rocks of the Palaeozoic crystalline-metamorphic basement of Aspromonte, created a barrier lake among mountains and along the course of the Fiumara del Bonamico, hence the name Lake Constantine or Oleander, due to the characteristic and luxuriant riparian vegetation.
