It distinguishes itself from the other broccoli for its curly leaves with a marked serrated edge and an intense dark green color. The "curly" variety was already mentioned by Alfieri Ossorio in 1811, by De Marco (1988), for Abruzzo Ulteriore II e Del Re in 1835 and Abruzzo Ulteriore I (Manzi, 2001).
Proverb: "beate a quella rape che in agosto si trove già nate" (blessed those turnips that are already born in August).
