The itinerary leading from Stelvio Pass to Trafoi has no difficulties and is accessible to everyone. It is 7-km long and takes 4 hours if you decide to take the cableway for the final stretch. Otherwise, the length becomes 10 km and the walking time about 5 hours.
The Stelvio Pass (2,757m), one of the highest mountain passes in Europe, can be reached by bus. From the pass, you can go ahead on foot following trail no. 20 in the direction of the Swiss border. The trail winds across peculiar places scattered with evidences of WWI, and it leads to Lago d'Oro (2,708m). Following the shepherds' trail crossing the pastures you will reach the edge of the woodland delimiting the larch and Swiss Stone Pine forest. It is recommended to stop at Forcola Mountain Hut, an ideal place to rest and recover your strength. The downhill stretch can develop in two ways: on foot along trail no. 17 or by cableway. From Trafoi it is possible to go back to the departure point by bus
