It stands majestic at the entrance of the town of Castelbello. Mentioned for the first time in 1238, even if it is probably more ancient, was built by Lords von Montalban.
It changed owner more than once and in 1956, when it was a ruin, was sold for Euros 16,04 by family Hendl to the State, that started important renovation works.
Since 1999, it has been managed by "Curatorio del Castello di Castebello". The chapel, whose renovation ended in 2001, the "old kitchen", and the permanent exhibit "Via Claudia Augusta", the Roman road crossing Val Venosta, are worth a particular visit.
