Its building probably dates back to the mid-13th century. Since 1983 it is Reinhold Messner's summer residence, who partly dedicated it to a museum. Juval houses one of the five sections of the Messner Mountain Museum and preserves a collection of paintings with views of the great sacred mountains, a precious collection of Tibetan relics and masks coming from the five continents, the Tantra room and, in the basement, the equipment of Messner's expeditions.
Near the castle, accessible on foot only (about 1 hour) or by shuttle bus, you can visit the steep vineyards of the agricultural holding Unterortl and the inn Schlosswirt Juval, with its characteristic products.
Juval hill lies at the entrance of Val Senales, between the village of Stava and the town of Naturno.
