Fort Venini, named after the captain from Valtellina, is situated a few kilometers from Bormio, in loc. Dossaccio, near Oga country hamlet.
It was built between 1911 and 1913 with the aim to watch over the road of Stelvio, defending it from an eventual Austrian attack. As a matter of fact, from the Fort it was possible to hit targets at the Pass, at Bocchetta di Pedenolo, at Torri di Fraele Pass, and at Foscagno Pass using the four long-range cannons, whose balls could also reach the 13 km of distance.
Considered no longer useful, the structure was definitively abandoned by the army in 1958. Despite all the accesses had been walled up, in the following years it was plundered and all the precious historical finds were stolen.
