Atlas of Amphibians and Reptiles of the Val Grande National Park
The Atlas of Amphibians and Reptiles is the first of three atlases, which the park is preparing to publish in the Documenta series, the series responsible for publishing materials and analysis documents, studies and research carried out in the Val Grande area. As an atlas, this publication presents a systematic collection, contextual to a simultaneous spatial vision, of the herpetofauna of the national park and of the neighboring areas as documented with specific research and monitoring, aimed at investigating its ecological and distributional aspects, carried out between 2013 and 2017. The multi-year study of herpetocenoses has allowed us to define the distribution in the Park territory and in some neighbouring areas affected by the process of expanding the national park, thus also opening new cognitive references for a broader and articulated territorial area in terms of the ecosystems involved and their geo-environmental significance, namely that of the new UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Ticino Val Grande and Verbano which includes the largest and most complex water catchment system of Lake Maggiore and Ticino.
