Pescina is located at an altitude of 750 m above sea level, at the entrance of the Giovenco valley, between the Abruzzi National Park and the Sirente-Velino Park.
Its name comes from the tradition of the inhabitants to use some pools ("piscine" in Italian) filled with water from the Giovenco river to fish the trouts and hunt the ducks.
