In ancient times the municipality of Fagnano Alto had to be a pagus vestino.
In the 16th century, the community of Fagnano consisted of ten villages, according to an inscription: "Ripae unius ex decem pagis Fanianis agri Aquilani". Among the archaeological findings we note: the polygonal opus wall and polygonal walls between Castello and Opi; crypt tombs in the hamlet of Campana.
