The village still preserves the typical aspects of the medieval village. Built on remains from the Roman era, the old inhabited center of Fontecchio developed for defensive purposes on the top of a hill overlooking the underlying Valle dell'Aterno. Not to be missed, the admirable fourteenth-century fountain and the Convents of the Capuchins and of Saint Francis that constitute the architectural highlights of Fontecchio. To these are added the 14th-century Tower with a fortified gate and clock among the oldest in Italy, still functioning.
