| A small part of the reserve is dedicated to specialized cultivations of poplars and rice. The largest area consists of an old coppice wood dominated by locust trees and black alders. Among the arboreal species, we should mention the turkey oak, the aspen, and the gean. The underwood is particularly rich in hazelnut and common elder. As far as fauna is concerned, the reserve represents an ideal environment for the nesting of Ardeidae, like the Little Egret, the Night Egret, and Squacco Heron, for which the stream Marchiazza and the surrounding rice fields represent an ideal reserve of food. Bird species that not aquatic species also live in the heronry, like the Long-eared Owl and the Sparrow Hawk. |
