The "Town of the Herons" |

| The reserve extends in the center of Sesia, in the south of Albano woods. It consists of a poplar wood, willows, and locust trees. Among the trees it is possible to find the heronry characterized by one of the largest bird populations of Italy (1,300 - 1,800 couples) where Little Egrets, Gray Herons, Night Herons, Cormorants, and Cattle Egrets live. Several years ago the Spoonbill nested here - the only case in Italy - while since 1995 some Sacred Ibis of the Nile have built their nest. (No admittance in the area, except for research reasons. Easy bird watching activities along the reserve boundaries.) |
