The "Town of the Herons"

Where in Italy Riserva naturale speciale Isolone di Oldenico
The reserve extends in the center of Sesia, in the south of Albano woods. It consists of a poplar wood, willows, and locust trees. Among the trees it is possible to find the heronry characterized by one of the largest bird populations of Italy (1,300 - 1,800 couples) where Little Egrets, Gray Herons, Night Herons, Cormorants, and Cattle Egrets live. Several years ago the Spoonbill nested here - the only case in Italy - while since 1995 some Sacred Ibis of the Nile have built their nest. (No admittance in the area, except for research reasons. Easy bird watching activities along the reserve boundaries.)
