The Paluaccio di Oga nature reserve (situated near the village of Valdisotto) can be reached in few minutes from the beautiful hollow of Bormio. The reserve hosts cupules of bog moss, which are typical of high peat moss, as well as a "plateau" which is permanently flooded.
The presence of several species of flowers, such as the Andromeda polifolia, the Vaccinum microcarpus, the Empetrum nigrum, the Oxycoccus quadripetalus and the Drosera rotundifolia has given, since the last century, a great interest to the area.
Once the visit to the reserve is finished, you can visit (the entrance is free) Forte Dosaccio, situated in the neighbourhoods. This fortress was built between 1909 and 1912 to defend the borderline between Italy and Austria and is visited, every year, by 15,000 people. |
