It is a small wetland at the end of a karst valley, not far from the Oratory of Sassomassiccio. WWF Modena acquired it in 1994 for conservation and research purposes. The pond - despite becoming considerably smaller during the summer - is an important biotope, because of the presence of some significant species: this is one of the few places in the region where Hottonia palustris (a rare species in Italy) can be found; Ranunculus acquatis and Veronica scutellata also grow here.
