Gola del Furlo is situated in an area where the environment is respected: a nature sanctuary for some species of flora and fauna, it represents an extraordinary example of natural monument that the work of man has been able to modify without destroying it. After engraving the massifs of Paganuccio and Pietralata Mountains, the waters of the river flow among shrubs and vertical walls and feed an hydroelectric generating station. At the top of the mountains of the Furlo, many interesting plant species live: the local fern and orchid, and perennial herbaceous plants, like the very rare sandwort. The hottest slopes are covered with holm oaks, downy oaks, hornbeams, honeysuckles, and strawberry trees. The presence of some birds which are elsewhere endangered is also interesting: the golden eagle, the peregrine, the golden owl, the blue rock thrush, the wall creeper. It is not difficult to see squirrels, roe deer, and fallow deer.
