Protected Areas in Angola
Legally established protected areas cover an area of about 80,000 sq. km, i.e. 6.6% of the country's territory. The wildlife in all the parks have been almost completely wiped out after the devastation wrought by decades of war, uncontrolled poaching and the loss of infrastructure. There is a serious lack of staff, resources and support, and only Kissama National Park is effectively functioning.
