On behalf of the people and government of Kenya, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) welcomes you to Shimba Hills National Reserve, one of our nation's treasured coastal rainforests.
As one of the smallest areas within our sphere of protection, which extends beyond 50 national parks and reserves to cover more than 10 million acres of Earth's most precious yet fragile biological assets, we hope you will enjoy the ever-expanding range of tourism options we strive to offer. Committed to sustainable habitat and wildlife conservation, as well as securing financial self-sufficiency for our work, we thank you for your support.
As you absorb the beauties of this special reserve, consider exploring other parts of Kenya too. Rich in diverse habitats, from coral reefs to sun-bleached savannahs to snow-capped peaks, Kenya offers a magnificent range of discoveries, from Earth's most ancient forms of life to wildlife most urgently threatened.
We hope you will want to return to many of Kenya's national parks and reserves again and again.
We wish you the safari of a lifetime!

Location

It lies 35 km southwest of Mombasa on the Kenyan coast, south of Kwale town. Altitude of 120-450 metres above sea level.

Averaging 24°C, the hot and humid coastal climate is cooled by strong breezes, morning mist and clouds. Rainfall averages 900-1,200 mm per year, falling in the “short rains” of October-November and the “long rains” of March-June.

When to go

Open all year round. As far as roads are concerned, most circuits consist of all-weather "murram" or dirt roads.
