Protected Areas in Lesotho
Current legislation includes the National Parks Act, gazetted in 1975, which provides for the designation and maintenance of national parks. It also allows for the conservation of wild animal and fish life; the preservation of vegetation and objects of historical or scientific interest and for the enjoyment of visitors to such parks; and provides for the control, management and maintenance of such parks.
In addition SANParks is involved, together with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, as a partner in the Maloti-Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation and Development Area (Lesotho and South Africa).
