| The history The chickpea Cicer arietinum L. is one of the most ancient and mostly used legumes. The areas where the chickpea cultivation is mainly entrenched are the territories around Camarda and Castelvecchio Calvisio near L'Aquila. Here there are some black and red chickpea types characterized by small and very uneven shapes called "ceci pizzuti". These types cannot be found in the other parts of the protected area any longer, and they have been replaced with bigger and light color types. Further information
