The ZSC covers 299 hectares and is part of the Municipalities of Nimis and Taipana. The site is crossed longitudinally by the Cornappo stream, whose waters are fed inside the area by the Preoreach rivulet. There are no inhabited centres on the site, all are on its margins: Borgo di Mezzo, Chialminis, Sturma, Borgo Vigant and Monteprato. The former provincial road n.38 crosses the site longitudinally while another road marks the south-western border and an unpaved one runs along the eastern border. The only pathway connects Borgo di Mezzo with Borgo Vigant.
