The ZSC covers over 140 hectares in the low Friuli plain, covering a stretch of the Tagliamento river made up of sandy-slit and calcareous-dolomite floods of the recent post-glacial period. The site presents a floodplain tract, typical of the torrential streams of the low Friuli plain. Among the trees, there are mainly white willows, black poplars and black alders, sometimes invaded by locusts and other exotic species, while on the Tagliamento banks the pioneer herbaceous gravel vegetation is present.
