It is a site that still preserves the remains of the spring landscape, in a context dominated by intensive agricultural activities and ichthyoculture. There are numerous endemic and rare plant species including Erucastrum palustre and Euphrasia marchesettii. It is also an important refuge and reproduction for many different species of birds, including Montagu’s harrier (Circus pygargus) and Hen harrier (Circus cyaneus). In the area there are European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), Italian agile frog (Rana latastei), Yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata), Italian crested newt (Triturus carnifex), and Zootoca vivipara ssp. Carniolica, while the populations of Vipera aspis ssp. francisciredi are considered particularly important as they are mostly isolated. Among the invertebrates it is the case to mention Callimorpha quadripunctaria, Crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes), and Morimus funereus. The flowing waters are home to European bullhead (Cottus gobio), Vairone (Leuciscus souffia), Spined loach (Cobitis taenia), Vertigo angustior and Helix pomatia.
