Steep valley on the northern slope of the Laga Mountains, dug in the molasse sediments which are partially eroded. The area is fully covered with beech forests, with silver firs and some pastures mostly colonized by aspens. In the undergrowth there are orchid species, whose presence is very limited in the whole Apennine.
Due to its ecological features the site is considered as belonging to the continental biogeographical region, even if the 22% of it is located in the alpine region within the 7 km of buffer.
