The small-size area lies a few kilometers from Turin and covers the final stretch of Rivoli morainic hill, generated by the glacier of Susa Valley. The most interesting feature is represented by the Castle, rebuilt in the 18th century according to the plan by Filippo Juvarra on the remains of the 15th century fortress of "Conte Verde" and Villa Melano. The former, renovated by the Region, has been housing since 1984 the Contemporary Art Museum, housing collections of Italian and foreign artists and important temporary exhibits. The establishment law provides for the enhancement of the forest heritage, which represents the 50% of the whole area, and the promotion of initiatives with cultural, educational, and recreational purposes. The recreational area next to the Castle is the privileged departure point for a series of itineraries developing for about 10 km across rural landscapes, clearings, and small woodlands up to Laghi di Avigliana Park.
