The Index Seminum is a list of the seeds collected in the area of the Hanbury Botanical Gardens and exchanged for free with other gardens.
The exchange activity goes on since 1883; the annual catalogue is sent to about 600 public organizations all over the world (university vegetable gardens, research and acclimatization centers, arboreta, alpine gardens, national parks, nature reserves, agricultural science university departments, technical schools).
The seeds offered are collected every year between May and November, they are cleaned manually, divided into small bags and then sent to those who ask for them.
The present catalogue offers a seed selection of about 300 plant species cultivated in the GBH.
