The Parco Locale di Interesse Sovracomunale della Cavallera extends over about 625 hectares (624,75 ha) within the territory of the municipalities of Arcore, Concorezzo, Villasanta and Vimercate, all belonging to the Province of Monza and Brianza. The area is part of the local parks system of the provinces of Monza and Brianza, and of Milan: in fact the eastern side of the park borders the "Parco del Molgora", while the northern side borders the "PLIS dei Colli Briantei". Other adjacent parks are the Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro and, farther north, the Parco Regionale di Montevecchia and Valle del Curone. The PLIS area develops as an agricultural area within a highly urbanized context: PLIS's significance (as well as of other protected areas) lies in its function to control building expansion and limit the problems connected to the settlement system. It is remarkable that the traditional white potato is still cultivated, and a project to recover the old local variety called "white potato from Oreno" is underway.
