The itinerary leaves from the green area of the Fagiolaro, near the crossroads between the built-up area of Colfiorito and Forcatura, and it develops as a ring route leading back to the departure point. It can be walked in both directions but we suggest you to go in anti clockwise direction.
One takes a pedestrian path running parallel to the road to Forcatura, up to the House of Mollaro situated near the sinkhole, which has been recently renovated together with the "Molinaccio", an ancient structure which exploited the swamp's exceeding waters.
One goes on up to the first hairpin curve to take the dirt road which, after the Fontaccia spring, leads to the swamp near the naturalistic observatory.
By turning right, along the bank of the swamp, one reaches the herons' nesting area and the LIPU (Italian League for Bird Protection) ornithological station for the bird ringing.
The path goes on towards the state road and runs along it, then it leads back to the Fagiolaro. The last stretch, between the observatory and the Fagiolaro could be not accessible due to seasonal problems and ground conditions.
