S. Genesio (Arcola) Recreational Area - Lipu Nature Sanctuary
Situated within Montemarcello-Magra River Park, in the Municipality of Arcola, this area lies on the right bank of river Magra and is characterized by the presence of a thick riparian woodland which is very important for the presence of birds. It is accessible from the highway exit of Sarzana following the roadsigns to Arcola and then to the River Park, the recreational area loc. San Genesio, and Lipu Nature Sanctuary.
The area is accessible for everyone
In the area you will find the Lipu Nature Sanctuary San Genesio di Arcola, a structure managed by LIPU (Lega Italiana Protezione Uccelli - Italian Bird Protection Association) and open to visitors on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon. The nature sanctuary and the visitor center represent a reference point for all nature lovers, for the local community and all the local schools.

Watergames in River Vara
Canoes, kayaks, and rafts descend the river Vara for 19km, in the stretch between San Pietro Vara in the Municipality of of Varese Ligure and Brugnato.
This river is the favorite one by canoeists, since the climate is mild from October to June, and you can practice sport in an untouched environment lying near the two highway toll booths.
Montemarcello - Magra Park includes a big section of Vara valley, busy with canoeists. The Park Authority has given a strong support to tourist and sports activities in the river valley, matching the preservation of the environment to its enjoyment and economic use. In order to meet the needs of those canoeists who choose river Vara, the Park has firstly planned and secondly installed two landing points equipped with dressing room and information boards.
Together with the above-mentioned common sports, it is possible to practice hydrospeed or canyoning.

Tours by Boat along the River and at Sea
Within specific projects or in collaboration with the local Municipalities and Associations (Cai, Mangiatrekking, Gruppo Speleomantes, etc.), the Park periodically organizes tours, free of charge or on payment, both to Montemarcello promontory and along rivers Magra and Vara.
The tours, some of which are carried out by bike along the cycle facilities or by boat along river Magra or the coast of the Promontory, are led by expert naturalistic tour guides who try to provide visitors with a correct knowledge of the places and the natural environment of the protected area.
