Historical-geographical, geo-paleontological, floristic, wildlife, and palaeoethnological features
The main innovation of this publication is highlighted by its title "I Monti della Lince" (The Mountains of the Lynx), chosen not for the presence on Lucretili Mountains of the wonderful feline
[Lynx lynx (Linnaeus, 1758)], but for the fact that these mountains - in the early 17th century - represented the area chosen for the pioneer botanical research activities of the first Scientific Academy of the modern age. We are talking about the "Accademia dei Lincei" by Federico Cesi, welcoming among its members Galileo Galilei and called in this way because it had as symbol the mythical lynx with the sharp sight, animal sacred to the Sun according to the 14th-15th century "solar theology", and at that time still living in a wild state in our Country.
It is a particularly significant documentation from a naturalistic point of view and extraordinary from the historical point of view; it collects documents linking Lucretili Mountains to the birth of science and modern civilization. Even if it is a page unknown by most of us, in Italy and in the rest of Europe.
