An endogenous and sustainable development project

The "Quaderno del Parco n. 2" is dedicated to agriculture and woodlands. The subheading is "Un progetto di sviluppo endogeno e sostenibile" (an endogenous and sustainable development project), enhancing the aims that the policies of the Park Authority have always pursued in these fields, that is making the farmers and breeders of the Park protagonists of their own future in the protected area.
The Quaderno, with its 32 pages, is characterized by a simple structure, easy and providing several information. The chapters deal with the system of Murgia in the past, the Park and the farmers, the business system, the use of the soil in a sustainable holding, good cultivation practices, and the rearrangement of the breeding activities, and is completed by a beautiful series of photos and by tables and charts making the contents even more accessible.
The publication was born from the assumption that in Alta Murgia National Park, more than in many other National Parks, the considerable presence of areas dedicated to agricultural and breeding activities deeply influences species and habitats of conservation interest.
The Quaderno includes the official documents of the Park Authority containing the technical specifications in the field of naturalistic management of the woodlands, the Specifications for the environmental improvement measures financed by the Park Authority and regarding the local administrations, the guidelines for the recovery measures of the dry-stone walls situated in the Park, and the Specifications for the environmental management measures implemented by private subjects in the Park territory.
