44 itineraries and two trekking routes chosen by the authors, the best way to discover the second mountain of the Apennines
If you look at it from the distance, Majella seems to be imposing, compact, impenetrable, a real "panettone" like the classical stereotype of the Apennines. If you better observe it close up, you will discover deep fissures, an unexpected and surprising world: very long ditches, sometimes dry and dug into the rock like canyons, others more open and luxuriant, with torrents at the bottom, like in the alpine valleys. Beyond the 2,400m, moon-like plateaus, that "stone desert" creating a unique atmosphere in the Apennines. Then the hermitages, the tholos huts, the traces of men that have loved it for centuries (mother Majella) because it creates life, and sworn ("damned the Majella") because harsh and merciless.
