How to Get to Sacro Monte Orta
Sacro Monte d'Orta is situated in the north-west of Italy, at about 90 km from Milan, 110 km from Turin, and 45 km from the border with Switzerland.
By Car
- If you travel by car, the best exit is Borgomanero, along the highway A26 Voltri Sempione, situated at about 15 km from Orta. At the exit of the highway, please follow the indications to Borgomanero - Gozzano - Orta. Once you reach the parking areas in Orta you can leave the car and climb on foot (for about 10 minutes), or reach the parking area situated at the Park entrance. The coaches cannot reach this point, and must be parked in the parking area at the beginning of the uphill stretch.
By Train
If
you travel by train, you must take the Novara - Domodossola line and
get off at Orta-Miasino railway station. From the station to the
S. Monte it takes 20 minutes on foot.
How to Get to Monte Mesma
Monte Mesma is situated in north-west of Italy, at about 90 km from Milan, about 110 km from Turin, and about 50 km from the border with Switzerland.
By Car
- If you want to reach the Park by car, take the highway A 26 Voltri - Gravellona Toce and the exit of Borgomanero. From here, follow the SR 229 up to Gozzano where you will take the road in the direction of Bolzano Novarese - Ameno for 5 km until you reach the country ward of Lortallo. Here you can leave the car and go on foot up to the Monastery which is situated on the summit of the hill.
By Train
If you travel by train, you must take the Novara - Domodossola railway line and
get off at Orta-Miasino railway station: from here to Monte
Mesma it is necessary to walk for about one hour.
At
the exit of the station take the road on the right going along the
railway line: follow it for about 1,500 meters up to the uphill detour
towards the town of Vacciago: from here, take the road in the direction
of Lortallo and then follow the directions to Mesma.
How to Get to Colle della Torre di Buccione
By Car
- If you want to reach the Park by car, take the highway A 26 Voltri - Gravellona Toce and the exit of Borgomanero. From here, follow the SR 229 road to Gozzano. Then take the SP road Gozzano - Miasino, and follow it for about 1,500 meters until you get to the small car park at the beginning of the uphill path to Torre. Once you leave the car, go ahead on foot (about 15 minutes).
- Moreover, there is the opportunity to reach Torre di Buccione along a trail leaving from Orta, called "Sentiero Azzurro", connecting the three protected areas and taking about three hours on foot.
