This itinerary starts from the square of Fontignano and proceeds, ascending, towards Montali. Just outside the hamlet, past the ancient tower, you cross terraced olive orchards and scrubs of Downy oaks until reaching a panoramic plain cultivated with cherry trees. In front of you is the Montali hill with its characteristic fortification on the summit, on your left lies the valley rich in olive orchards, pastures and cultivated fields with Colle San Paolo and Mongiovino Vecchio and finally, on your right you can enjoy a view on the valley of Mugnano and the Agello hill. Following the signs, among a profusion of yellow broom (in the spring), you reach Montali (580 m. amsl).
Walk around the housing estate, presently destined to tourist activities, proceeding towards the church located about 200 meters further, keeping in front of you the Marzolana woods, the Trasimeno lake, Montalera and the agricultural plain facing the lake. On the right the silhouettes of Corciano and Perugia and their hills close the horizon. From here you can enjoy one of the most interesting landscapes of the southern side of the Trasimeno. Turning left, hike over the road in the direction of Colle San Paolo, leaving it after a while in the area of the Porta Materna pass, where you advance into the woods of Downy oaks and holm oaks following the main trail. You will end up on the NE slope of Mount Solare, in a very panoramic position, above the Villa Monte Solare and its olive orchards. The halfway trail, flowering and colorful during the spring, takes us, descending on the left, to the beautiful Villa and its annexes, which now is destined to tourism. Take again the road connecting Montali to Colle San Paolo, turn once more to the left, slowly descending, through a smooth and relaxing landscape, towards Fontignano.
