The island of Alicudi is the emerged section of a volcanic system developing for over 1,000m under sea level and emerging for 675m. As far as geological and tectonic features are concerned, it is a stratovolcano whose lava flows alternated with scoria eruptions, among which bombs, ashes, and lapilli prevail, and with lava domes (lava which hardened within the crater immediately before the eruption).

Shrubby plant which can often appear as a tree, widespread in the Aeolian Islands. It can reach the 3 meters of height.

Among the species belonging to the Laridae family, the Herring Gull is the most frequent one in the area. Its wing span reaches one meter and a half, and it is about 65 cm long: for these reasons, it is considered a big-size bird.
