Thanks to agreements made with the fishing operators, the Park Authority has promoted new services of fruition in Capo Rizzuto Marine Reserve, giving birth to a project of "fishing&tourism" which already represents a reality in other Marine Protected Areas.
Thanks to the availability of small fishing boats and to the collaboration of the fishermen who own them, it will be possible to accompany tourists and fishing areas' residents close to bays and little inlets where, provided with the adequate fishing equipment (fishing lines, rods, and reels) they will be given the opportunity to fish only pre-arranged quantities.
These initiatives are aimed to create an environmental sustainable service which will be useful not only as far as entertainment, but also as far as employment is concerned: as a matter of fact, the service will be carried out by the local navy and by human resources coming from the world of small fishing.
The service is based on the collaboration and the agreement with the local navy, on the direct involvement of the fishermen co-operatives present on the territories of the Province and of the Park Authority, the manager of the area.
The Aquarium is situated in location Capo Rizzuto, in the square of the Sanctuary of Madonna Greca. The structure consists of 22 pools with a total capacity of about 20,000 liters; within it, you can admire the flora and fauna of the protected area. It is a small reserve where the sea habitats have been recreated respecting the organisms living in it: it is exciting to admire Posidonia oceanica, Echinaster Sepositus - better known as Red Starfish - Common two-banded Seabreams, Sea Urchins, Saddled Breams, the Octopus, the multicolored Wrasse, the mythic Grouper, the nice Hermit Crab, the menacing Moray Eels, the Jellyfish.
