The didactic service of Miramare Marine Protected Area has begun its activity in 1989 with the aim to combine the discovery and study of the sea ecosystem with the specific conservation aims of a protected area, according to its establishment decree (DM of 12/11/1986). In this way, C.E.A.M. (Center for the Education to the Marine Environment) was born, belonging to the WWF Education Centers scattered all over Italy, with the aim to promote a methodology based on the direct contact between users and the environment.
Programs of knowledge of the marine and coastal environment are suggested to students and teachers to offer the basic elements for the interpretation of the balances regulating an ecosystem, integrating the classical analysis methods of environmental survey (survey of environmental parameters, sampling of flora and fauna, elaboration along transepts, etc.) with more emotional-playful approaches.
Moreover, promotional-educational special projects are carried out and periodically updated, to analyze specific themes in order to educate to the respect and the safeguard of the natural environments.
The almost 30 years long experience in the field of marine environmental education has always been exported as a "pilot" model in other protected areas, both in Italy and in the rest of the Mediterranean, contributing to spread the belief that the respect of the environment surrounding us depends on its knowledge and the understanding of the complex interactions regulating it.
Clothing:
