Alta via del Carso - Mount Orsario

The CAI path 3, namely the Alta Via del Carso, leads to the summit of the Mount Orsario/Medvedjak. This path develops over 55 km along the border with Slovenia. Departing from Paese, in the province of Trieste, it reaches Jamiano in the province of Gorizia. It is possible to graft the path 3 near the summit by walking part of the path 43, departing from the road connecting the built-up area of Col with the locality of Fernetti/Fernetiči.
The path crosses some interesting stretches of the typical karst moor, and it allows to enjoy wonderful rocky outcrops. On the summit of Mount Orsaio, near the ruins of the barracks from the late 1930s, there is a small wooden tower offering a 360 degree view, both towards the sea and the Alps and beyond the border towards the first mountain spurs of the near Slovenia.
